Drain and refill

Pool draining and acid wash for Chandler and Gilbert pools.

When the water is past balancing, Del Sol drains the pool, acid washes the plaster when it needs it, then refills and rebalances so the pool starts over on clean water.

Chapter 01

When the water is past balancing

A desert pool loses water to the sun every day, and every top-off adds water that carries its own minerals. The water leaves and the minerals stay behind. Over years of evaporation and refills, the dissolved solids build until the water is hard, dull and slow to respond to anything added to it.

The signs are familiar. Chemistry that will not hold no matter what goes in, algae that returns after every treatment, a chlorine demand that eats sanitizer as fast as it is added, and staining that no brush will move. At that point another round of chemicals is money poured into water that cannot take it.

A green pool is often how an owner finds out. If a turn around cannot clear the water, or the water is still heavy afterward, draining is the next step. When you call and describe the pool, the office will tell you which one yours needs.

How a drain and refill is handled

Draining is not just pulling a plug. A pool is a shell sitting in the ground, and an empty one can be damaged if groundwater pushes on it. That is why this is work for someone who knows the pool, not a weekend job with a hose and a pump.

Before any drain or acid wash, Del Sol has the owner sign its own Pool and Spa Draining & Acid Wash Waiver. It comes first, before the work starts. You can read it ahead of time: it is on the forms page and linked just below.

With the pool empty, the plaster is open for inspection and cleaning. Stain, old waterline scale and growth that held on through every treatment are all in view. When the plaster needs it, an acid wash strips the surface layer, and Del Sol's directory listings also name chlorine baths, a heavy chlorine treatment for algae-stained plaster, as part of this work.

Chapter 03

Refilling, rebalancing and moving onto weekly service

Refilling is the start of the pool's new chemistry, not the end of the job. Fresh fill water arrives with its own minerals and no stabilizer or sanitizer in it, so the water is tested and brought into range before anyone swims. A freshly cleaned surface is also the least forgiving of bad chemistry, so the early balance matters.

Then the pool goes onto a routine. Weekly service from Del Sol starts at $90 per month for homes in Chandler and Gilbert, and it keeps the new water from drifting back toward the state it was drained out of: walls, benches and steps swept, baskets emptied, the water tested and chemicals added, and a service slip left detailing the work.

The waiver is signed first.

Not sure a drain is what the pool needs? Look at how a green pool turn around is worked, then call (480) 272-7260. After the refill, the pool moves onto weekly pool service.
