Equipment pad

Pool equipment repair: pumps, filters, salt cells and lights

Everything that moves, filters or lights your water sits on one pad beside the house. When a piece of it fails, Del Sol repairs it, cleans it or installs the replacement for pools in Chandler and Gilbert.

Chapter 01

What a failing equipment pad tells you

The pump, the filter and, on a salt pool, the salt cell sit together on one pad, and they announce trouble before the water does. A pump that will not prime, or that runs louder than it used to, is usually pulling air: a dry or flattened lid O-ring, a loose fitting on the suction side, or a basket packed with debris. A filter gauge that climbs higher than it did last month means the filter is full and needs cleaning before the pump is forced to push water through it.

On a salt pool, a cell that has scaled over with calcium stops making chlorine the way it should, and the water can cloud or turn green while the generator still looks like it is running. A pool light that has gone out, or an automatic cleaner that parks in one corner, is easy to put off. In Arizona heat chlorine burns off fast, so a pool with weak circulation or a dead cell turns faster than most owners expect.

How Del Sol works the pad

Del Sol's repair line is eight jobs long, in the office's own words: filter breakdown and cleaning; automatic pool cleaner repairs; new equipment installation; pool light repairs/replacement; salt system maintenance; pump and filter repair/maintenance; O-ring maintenance and service; and algaecides and water conditioners.

Directory listings for Del Sol name the specific jobs inside that list: new filter and motor installs, plumbing repairs, DE filter cleans, cartridge filter cleans, sand filter changes and light repairs. It matters which filter you own. A cartridge filter is taken out and cleaned or replaced, a sand filter has its sand changed, and a DE filter is cleaned and recharged with fresh diatomaceous earth.

Call (480) 272-7260, Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm, and describe what the pump or filter is doing. Del Sol is fully licensed, bonded and insured, ROC#275375, and works pools in Chandler and Gilbert as well as Mesa, Tempe and Phoenix.

Chapter 03

Catching it before it breaks

An equipment check is the fourth of the nine jobs on every Del Sol weekly visit, right beside emptying the pump and skim baskets and back washing as needed. Someone is looking at your pad every week, so a rising filter pressure or a louder pump gets noticed early, and the service slip left after each visit details the work performed.

Both SRP and APS, the electric utilities serving the Phoenix area, run energy-efficient pool pump programs. Del Sol keeps the rebate applications and calibration reports on its forms page. The terms are the utilities' own, so read the program form before you count on anything. If a repair turns into a swap, new equipment installation is on the list too.

The repair line

Eight jobs on the pad, as Del Sol lists them.

If the pump is fine and the water is the problem, start with algae treatments. To have the pad looked at every week, read about weekly pool service. Pump rebate paperwork lives on the forms page.
